Hi
I have booked a tour of China and the tour company today tells me they did not get minimum numbers and have cancelled it. They will refund the land cost but I suspect not the airfares, which leaves me a bit stuck. It is for myself and my wife. We fly into Beijing on the 15th September and fly out on the 29th September again from Beijing. We have visas already covering that period, but no more.
Have you guys anything that can help us see a bit of China over that period and if so, what is the cost?
Regards
Roger

We booked our hotel close by the westlake. We walked few minutes to the lakeside park for a boat ride around the lake, which was very interesting and scenic. There are also many paths to walk along the shore, with sitting areas throughout. Food and drinks are available and in the evening we went to an amazing concert on the lake. I'm not sure how often these performances occur but it was spectacular and definitely worth finding out when one is occurring. There are lots of restaurants and shops just outside the park, if you decided to stay all day. Beautiful spot

Dragon Well Tea (Longing Tea),the world famous Hangzhou Dragon Well Tea ( Longjing) is produced at this village for over 600 years. Produced mostly by hand and renowned for its high quality, earning its No.1 tea in China. A trip to Hangzhou is not complete without visiting the LongJing Tea Plantation. I will highly recommend Mei Jia Village. It is called Mei Jia as the family surname is Mei. A very beautiful scenic place. Many local traditional tea house worth a visit too.And there are many tea houses provide meals...

We decided to go to Meijiawu Tea Village near Westlake in Hangzhou by ourselves. We took a taxi from our hotel nearby Longxiangqiao subway station to the Dragon well tea village(Meijiawu village) was about 41 yuan. We were lucky that it was a little overcast and cool as I believe it might get really hot in the summer. Meijiawu is a little village situated between beautiful mountains with lots of big old trees and tea plantations planted on terraces up the mountains.
Everywhere there are cement walkways that you can walk on and enjoy the beautiful view and scenery by yourself. The entrance is free. In town there are plenty of tea houses where you can enjoy a cup of the West Lake Dragon Well tea and have some fruit snacks. Prices vary.

Overall was a great tour day for me as someone that really loves to drink tea. Bonnie and the driver came to hotel to pick me up in the morning and from the start Bonnie was quite warm and friendly. Bonnie is local from Hangzhou, so throughout the day she shared many facts and history about Hangzhou and longjing tea.
Of course it costs a bit more for a private vs a group tour, but i really enjoyed how it was more personal to what i wanted to see. You don't get the usual "hard sell" and brought to the pre-arranged places where they try to sell to you....to make up for the cheaper group tour costs (this is based on other group tours i've taken in the past).
The only time i was really sold anything was at the tea village (cultural tea center i think), but this was ok for me since I intended to buy tea anyways and the tea sample i got there tasted pretty good.

Fantastic hangzhou tea culture day tour thanks to David. There were a lot of negative things that I'm not gonna go into but, once we got to Hangzhou @12:30PM, it got better. Very simple lunch but everything we had were good. It was a miserable day because of the traffic and the rain. Our tour guide David was awesome. We got to Hangzhou later than usual for this tour but he never rush us. We got longjing tea that we wanted. We would love to go back to Hangzhou again. We'll make sure to stay there for more than a day next time..

We had mostly a great day, visiting the lake, tea village and tea museum, lunch at a tea farmer's house, testing the best green tea in china. Our guide, Bonnie was extremely knowledgeable, spoke excellent English, and was very informative answering lots of questions.Bonnie was very knowledgeable about the Longjing Tea Planation. It was very informative, the tea was delicious and many of us bought some to take home. A great day in Hangzhou for tea culture!
