This tour of Gulangyu Island was an unforgettable experience that offered a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. As we strolled through the peaceful gardens, the tranquility of the surroundings immediately captured my attention. The Shuzhuang Garden, in particular, with its scenic views and traditional architecture, felt like a serene escape from the bustling city life. The highlight for me was definitely the chance to walk along the Island Ring Road, where I could take in the fresh sea breeze and enjoy the stunning coastal views.
Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the island's history and culture, providing insightful explanations at each stop. The personalized attention made it feel more like a friend showing us around rather than just a typical tour. Our driver was also excellent, ensuring we were comfortable and transported smoothly between locations. Their professionalism made the day so much easier and more enjoyable, allowing us to fully immerse in the experience without any worries.
Each stop along the way told its own story, whether it was the historic Hulishan Fortress or the delightful sounds of classical music at the Piano Museum. The island's relaxed pace and charm made for a refreshing day of exploration, and I left with a deeper appreciation for both its beauty and its rich cultural heritage. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience the heart of Gulangyu Island.

Our 2-day tour of Xiamen and the Tulou villages was an unforgettable experience that beautifully blended the serene island life of Gulangyu with the fascinating history of the Hakka people. From the moment we set foot on Gulangyu Island, we were captivated by its peaceful atmosphere, with its charming colonial architecture, lush greenery, and stunning views of the sea. The stroll along the quiet streets, surrounded by historic buildings, felt like stepping back in time, while the absence of cars added a sense of tranquility and old-world charm.
Visiting Nanputuo Temple was another highlight. The temple’s beautiful architecture and peaceful surroundings made it a perfect spot for reflection. The peaceful sound of the temple bells, combined with the serene views, provided a calming contrast to the bustling streets of Xiamen.
The following day, we ventured out to the Tulou clusters, and the journey to these ancient earthen structures was truly remarkable. The experience of seeing the Chengqi Lou and Zhencheng Lou, both massive, round buildings that have stood for centuries, was awe-inspiring. Walking through the narrow alleys and entering the cozy courtyards inside gave us a real sense of Hakka community life – a culture rich in tradition and resilience.
The Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster was equally impressive, offering stunning panoramic views of the landscape, with the tulous nestled in the green hills like ancient sentinels. It felt like stepping into a different world, where time seemed to stand still and the traditions of the Hakka people are still very much alive.
Throughout the tour, we were treated to the incredible flavors of local cuisine, from the fresh seafood in Xiamen to the hearty Hakka dishes in the Tulou villages. The food alone was worth the trip!

My trip to Fujian’s Tulou was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping back in time. The ancient earth buildings, with their towering walls and intricate architecture, exude a sense of history and resilience that’s hard to describe. Visiting these villages was a unique experience. The private tour was perfect for getting an intimate look at these iconic structures. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the Hakka culture, sharing insights about the significance of the Tulou and the way they shaped the lives of the people who lived there. Each building we visited had its own charm, but what truly stood out was the sense of community that these structures represent. It’s not just about the architecture, but about the way these buildings have nurtured generations of families.
The serene landscapes surrounding the Tulou added to the beauty of the experience. The lush greenery, traditional villages, and peaceful atmosphere made it feel like a hidden paradise, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. I could easily imagine life here centuries ago, with the earth buildings providing both safety and a sense of belonging.
