Xi'an City Wall was erected in the 14th century Ming Dynasty, under the regime of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. Over the moat, there used to be a huge drawbridge, which would cut off the way in and out of the city, once lifted.It is the most completely preserved and the largest city wall in China. It was built for the military defense in the ancient time.Biking around the City Wall is included, and is the best way to enjoy this sight. You can take in the great contrast of the ancient culture and modern Xian while biking on the wall. The walls, ramparts, gates and watchtowers, which were built in the 13th century can still be seen.
