Drive about 1.5 hours to Longchuan Village, Jixi County. Longchuan is a picturesque village in southwestern Anhui province. Nestled between Feng and Chaohu Mountains, the 1600-year-old village enjoys a pastoral setting that recalls an ancient Chinese landscape painting. Longchuan's rows of traditional Hui-style homes built along deep, narrow alleys complete the feeling of a China long forgotten.
Upon arrival, you will first visit the Ancestral Temple of the Hu Family, it was built in the mid-Ming Dynasty. It belongs to the place where the Han people worship their ancestors and decide important events within the clan. The decoration of the temple is mainly made of various kinds of wood carvings. It is known as "Museum of Wood Carving Art" and "Palace of National Art".
After lunch, pay a visit to the Hu Zongxian's Official Residence, Hu Zongxian (1512-1565), also known as Ruzhen or Meilin, was a celebrated military officer and senior government official. During the reign of Ming emperor Jiajing, he drove invading pirates from China's eastern seaboard and ultimately restored peace to the area. He later held offices as the Minister of National Defense and governor of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces. It is he who marked the Diaoyu Islands as part of Chinese territory for the first time.
The last stop is Former Residence of Hushi, this is a typical ancient Hui style architecture. There are two former residences of Hushi in China, one is in Jixi County, the other is in Shanghai. You can learn more about Hushi's story and the history of Jixi through his former residence.
